These 3 Skincare Ingredients Will Make You Reconsider How You Do Dewy

Finally, the western world has realized that being “too hydrated” isn’t a thing – gone are the days of stripping every last oil and bit of shine on your face, all the while wondering why your skin is so bad.

If you grew up using skincare found in American shop aisles, chances are you know of the horrendous nature of your past routine – be it your formerly trusty Noxzema pad, rubbing alcohol, or the absolute dreaded St. Ives Apricot Scrub, consumers have become much, much more educated on the importance of maintaining hydration on the skin to prevent everything from acne, premature aging, and unwanted texture.

Now, with color cosmetic trends turning to the desire to look hydrated, plump, and juicy, maintaining a base chock-full of moisture is now more vital than ever. Here, I discuss my favorite hydrating, skin-transforming ingredients that have changed not only mine, but many others’ skin for the absolute better.

Hyaluronic Acid

Everyone knows Hyaluronic Acid as the stuff in dermal fillers. The reason it looks so gorgeous and (usually) natural, though? This ingredient is found in nearly every part of the body; from the eyes to connective tissues, Hyaluronic Acid is there to lubricate. With its strong ability to penetrate skin’s most vital layers, fine lines and wrinkles appear more plump and filled in. Moisture is captured and sealed in effectively, creating the perfect base for a healthy, youthful glow.

Camellia

There’s a reason this has remained on the vanities of women across Asia for centuries; extracted Camellia is a powerful antioxidant known to have an endless amount of beneficial properties. Containing high levels of EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a polyphenol, it protects the skin from damaging free radicals. This slows down the aging process while saturated omega-9 provides moisture deep into the skin, effectively plumping fine lines and wrinkles with continued use.

This is an ideal ingredient for sensitive skin; Camellia’s anti-inflammatory properties promote the reduction of discoloration, be it rosacea or scarring.  Plus, it’s quick-absorbing, making it perfect for those who can’t be bothered with drawn-out skincare routines.

Snail Mucin

For ethics’ sake, I cannot participate any skincare discussion without mentioning the magic of snail mucin.

When I say magic, I mean ab. so. lute. MAGIC. Snail mucin supports cell regeneration and protects against UV rays and free radicals, making it an ideal anti-ager. Additionally, it is super-packed with hyaluronic acid, making this goopy elixir especially excellent at everything HA does, all the while plumping the skin by promoting the production of collagen and elastin.

Personally, snail has been the biggest transformer in my skin. It has helped tremendously with the fine lines on my forehead and eyes, especially after losing a significant amount of fat in my face. Aside from its plumping properties, I find my makeup looking especially glowy when I apply any sort of snail product. If I had to recommend any ingredient for overall benefits, it would 100, 1,000% be snail mucin.

Purely cruelty-free? Worry not! Snail mucin is extracted kindly, with snails able to roam freely and happily.
